All for one

Today I offer up four Champions to the Chaos altar of t'internet for sacrifice. By which I mean I finally got my act together and painted some more Chaos Space Marines. These were sort of an experiment of combining various styles and techniques while creating a cohesive central theme at the same time and I like to think that it was a success and I hope you agree. In light of the forthcoming hardback version of the Black Legion supplement I'm painting my Chosen Marines (and most of the rest of my CSM) as Black Legion. At least until another supplement comes out and I start painting some stuff for that one. I think I'm going to end up with a set of models worthy of the Index Astartes by the time I'm done. I think we'll need a bigger display cabinet...

We Are Returned!

I honestly thought that the Black Legion supplement would create a frenzy of Black Legion armies but I think there's barely been a ripple... Maybe when the printed version is ready? Anyway the release has had an effect on me and inspired me to paint my Black Legion Chosen. My Chosen were always going to be Black Legion but now I've been inspired to re-imagine how I go about it.

Terrible Twos

The job today was to finish another Cultist and I'm pretty pleased with the results. In keeping with my new way of painting them this one is inspired by the World Eaters legion. You may be thinking "hold on, that guy isn't red" but alas you either forget or are unaware that I'm painting my World Eaters in their pre-Heresy colours so white and blue are the way to go. The results are below.

Only the Initiated

After a fantastic day out with some friends I had a random flash of inspiration on the bus ride home. I'd been mulling over a few options for my Cultists for a while and wondering which Legion I should tie them to and how I should do it but then I came to the conclusion that they can be representative of ALL the legions and as I have 20 of them I'll get some decent coverage of all of the Traitor Legions. My first in inspired by the Emperor's Children and their worship of Slaanesh (I had a lot of fun painting my Sorceress and I guess I rode the Slaanesh wave). Now I'll admit that he took a while (4 hours almost exactly) but as I look at him I think it was worth it and I hope that you'll agree.

Well here we are, happy 100th post to this blog! Now I've been sat on a project for a couple of weeks now which I thought would be great for my 100th post and that's my repainted Daemonettes. Alongside that (first picture is above) is my Sorceress of Slaanesh. Read on for more information...

Relentless pursuit

After a visit to the Dudley store I decided to add a couple of extra touches to Kranon (whom I have renamed Meric Voyen, ex-apothecary of the Death Guard legion). I've neatened up and brightened his cloak, remoulded it (with the paint, not giving him a whole new cloak) and added a little something to the base in the form of a glowing rock.

Growing up

My latest addition to my paint collection is a mould effect from Modelmates. It's not quite the same as the rust effect but it's still pretty cool and now that I've figured out how to use it right it looks great. I used it on Kranon (new name still a work in progress) and while I slightly messed up in one area I figured out how it works and there's another area I absolutely love which is on the inside.

Relentless by name...

Due to my lack of anything to do today I've not only made the progress I posted about before but I've also managed to pretty much finish Kranon the Relentless. I've actually quite enjoyed painting him as he's quite detailed and I've never painted Death Guard before. I did paint some plague marines many years ago but they weren't painted in chapter colours, they were in Nurgle colours.

Time of Decay

Today I've started to paint Kranon the Chaos Lord (who will be renamed to something more Nurglesque at a later date) as a Death Guard lord.

So far I've done a base coat on the armour in Ceramite White and then washed over with Agrax Earthshade. I was going to use Nuln Oil but I figured the brown would look more decayed than black. I'll go over the large areas with White Scar and then go over the raised areas with Nurgling Green. I'll then use the rust effect paint on areas of the armour to make it look like it has slowly decayed over the last 10,000 years. I plan on acquiring other weathering liquids to add more effects of decay such as mould and limescale to make my death guard that much more rotten. For now though, here's my current progress.

The end is nigh!!!

Well, maybe not but my thirst for evil has been slated temporarily with the acquisition of... DARK VENGEANCE :D

I've seen the models painted in many different ways and I've seen various people assembling and painting them but nothing can quite compare to how it feels to open and handle the models knowing that they're mine and mine alone.

Now though I've got to decide how I want to paint them. Do I go for the colours of the Black Legion? Maybe the pinks of the Emperor's Children? Or the blues and yellows of the Thousand Sons? What about the reds of the Word Bearers or the World Eaters? It may not seem like it but it's a huge decision for me as it dictates how I'll be playing the game as I expand my army...
